SUSTAINABILITY PHILOSOPHY

As designers we are responsible for the entire lifecycle of a garment. MAHI is committed to designing timeless sustainable collections and will continue to explore new ways in which to develop our clothing and production practices to contribute to a brighter, more sustainable future.

MATERIALS

70% of a companies environmental impact happens at a raw material level. At MAHI we are on a mission to use only responsibly sourced fabrics that are sustainable for our planet. Our current fabrics are viscose and GOTS certified organic cotton.

GLOBAL ORGANIC TEXTILE STANDARD

The Global Textile Standard is the worldwide leading processing standard for organic cotton. At MAHI we only use organic cotton. GOTS means a strict criteria for social and ecological processes, backed by independent certification of the entire supply chain. This means a strict social criteria; no forced labor, no child labor, workers rights, safe working conditions and living wages. Organic cotton produces up to 94% less greenhouse gas emissions than regular cotton.

GOTS certification means hazardous pesticides are banned, less energy and water are used, farmers are free to choose what they grow and are encouraged to companion plant, growing their food alongside crops. GOTS makes for better lives for farmers, better soil and a more sustainable future for farming.

PACKAGING

We use biodegradable ‘comPOST’ ‘dirtbag’ sacks which are made from Corn starch, PLA (Polylactide, which is made from waste corn too and other plants) and PBAT (Polybutyrate Adipate Terephthalate). These mailer bags are compostable and bio degrade in 90 days.
